Episode Summary

My recent “relapse” has reminded me that there is still a lot of work to do to improve my mental well being. I have started CBT with the NHS but my next appointment isn’t for another 4 weeks.

However I have come to the conclusion (again) that I have to take control of my recovery. As a result of that decision, there are a number of questions I have. In this episode I explore those questions and identify what I have to start doing.

Episode Show Notes

00:14 – Background to this episode. After my recent “relapse” (see episodes 140, 142 and 143) I realise my emotional resilience is still low. I did define the skills and attributes I thought I needed in episode 136.

01:21 – I have had my first proper CBT session but the next one isn’t for another 4 weeks. This will reflect how things will be once the treatment has run its 12 session maximum course.

01:46 – I realise I have to take responsibility for my recovery and mental well being and so have three questions:

  • How do I take control?
  • What do I need to do?
  • How often do I need to do it?

02:00 – Question 1 – How do I take control? Well I realise the first thing to do is to actually decide to take control and become accountable. I realised at the very start of doing this podcast that there was no rescue party.

If it is to be, it is up to me

03:28 – Question 2 – What do I need to do? I have certainly got to do things differently. I have at least got to become even more self aware. If I take the CBT route then I have to become more aware of my thoughts, feelings, behaviours and bodily sensations.

05:15 – Question 3 – How often do I do it for? Well I think it is clear I need to do it at least daily – once a week just won’t cut it.

06:02 – There are lots of potential answers out there. The key thing is that I just have to find an answer for me.
