A short poem that’s an expression of the stigma I feel about struggling with depression and feelings of low self esteem.

Your Ignorance Is My Bliss

Blissful.

In ignorance of my suffering.

That’s how it is.

That’s how I want it to be.

If I share my suffering with you,

it doubles.

Not because we now both carry it.

But because my suffering grows

BECAUSE I’ve shared it.

Shared is not halved.

Sharing multiplies the pain for me.

It morphs it into shame

And into guilt

For not feeling good enough

or worthy enough

because I have the suffering.

So why burden you with a problem you can’t change.

When all it will do is amplify my suffering.

And perhaps

maybe possibly

trigger the rejection I fear the most.
