Episode Summary

After another week of podcast episodes, my regular Sunday Summary shares the highlights of what has happened over the last 7 days.  These include:

  • My top 10 questions I want answering about antidepressants, how they work and what natural alternatives are there.
  • What I discovered about the main causes of depression.
  • How I found one of the most independent, comprehensive and helpful sources of credible information on the topic of depression written by PhDs and medical professionals.
  • My first tentative steps in understanding what goes on in my brain when I have low moods.
  • An absolutely beautifully stunning animation of what goes on in the brain of a person who first gets depressed and then recovers.
  • How I stunned myself with an age old realisation which only becomes obvious when you become enlightened to its message.

Episode Show Notes

00:12 – In episode 079 on Monday I shared the ten questions I am using to guide my research in understanding more about antidepressants and what natural alternatives I can use instead.

00:35 – Why I want to seek alternatives to antidepressants.

01:39 – On Tuesday in episode 080 I shared my initial findings about the causes of depression.

02:23 – As a result of these initial findings, two more important questions came to light:

  • What aspects of the causes of depression am I able to influence or control?
  • Does brain neuroplasticity offer hope that I can change the way my brain works for the better?

03:09 – In episode 081 I shared two really useful resources. The first is a TED Ed video that you’ll find in the sidebar of this site (here’s the YouTube link in case it has been moved)

03:53 – The second resource is MentalHelp.net. This is a very comprehensive resource written by PhDs and doctors that is very easy to read and doesn’t try to sell you anything.

04:36 – On Thursday I finally got round to sharing some basics on the brain – the structure of a brain cell and the dynamics of what goes on between brain cells.

05:24 – Why it is important for me to share the sources of the information I discuss in each episode.

06:00 – In Friday’s episode I shared an absolutely stunning video that is a collaboration between artist Emma Allen and neuroscientist Daisy Thompson-Lake.

06:33 – I share why watching this video was an emotional experience for me.

07:08 – On Saturday I absolutely stunned myself with the powerful realisation – If I can change my thoughts, I can change how I feel!

07:57 – Why I am feeling more positive about my future because of this week’s episodes.
