Episode Summary
In this episode I explain why I have chosen to explore the Wim Hof method to help deal with depression. I outline the fundamentals of the method (based on a couple of excellent YouTube videos and describe the experiences of my first attempt at trying the breathing exercises this morning. I also explain how I have “grown” into having cold showers. Today was counselling day and so this episode also gives a brief update on that.

06:26 – A brief explanation of the breathing method:
- Get comfortable
- Do 30 power breaths (fully in then let go)
- Exhale completely then hold for as long as you can
- Take a full deep in breath and hold for at least 10 seconds
- Repeat at least two more times (so three complete rounds)
SAFETY NOTICE – Don’t do this exercise driving or when operating machinery. Only do them when you can get comfortable (either seated or lying down) and are able to safely close your eyes. DO NOT do them in or near water.

08:29 – I was amazed at just how long I could hold my breath for having fully exhaled – I counted up to 120 on the third round!

17:45 – One thing I have taken form counselling so far – when I am faced with doing one thing or another and find myself troubled by the dilemma of having to make a choice, why not consider doing both!
